I read an article the other day about this topic.
It was saying that consumers should not use the over the coutner type of whitening. They have proof that it aid's in the formation of mouth cancer. It's the hydrogen peroxide they think, because the over the counter remedies have very high levels of it. When they gathered statistics about it, they found that 8-10 patients they had asked, tried the over the counter whitener's.
They did say that anything a dentist would use has very low levels of hydrogen peroxide, and are much much safer. As well as the mouth peice that they will mold for you holds in all the chemicals and reduces the leakage.
My friend uses a kit she bought from a dentist and it works AMAZING, it is the kind with the mouth peice. cost her 475$ CDN. Well worth it, she has BRIGHT white teeth from it.
