    Should Professional Athletes Be Charged?

Should professional athletes be charged with a crime when they cheap shot someone? I am amazed at the amount of behavior that goes unchecked in professional sports with organizing bodies simply fining a player.

If I were a local district attorney, I would have Bertuzzi behind bars serving several years for assault.

As I said in the other thread, I think he should be charged with assault. Sure hockey is a violent game, but this is crossing the line. If the two were involved in a brawl and one got injured then its part of the game, but a cheapshot out of nowhere that ends with this much trauma certainly isnt the same imo.

The film kinda looked like the guy got hit from behind which is not so cool. On the other hand given what typically goes on in a hockey game, hockey will suffer if he is charged with assault imho.

              Of course they should be.

But time is not warrented in this case. No regular person would get jail time neither for an incident like that. Charged but no jail for first time offenders. Of course that's the whole problem with the legal system and the reason for repeat offenders but we won't get into that.

Sorry to see it happen but he should have turned around and taken it for running Naslund out.

If anyone watched the game live then what the hell was Granado doing having him on the ice at that stage of the game anyways. The game was pretty much a goon fest from the start you think a professional coach would have the brains to sit him out when obviously everyone knew he was going to get it.

Nope they shouldnt. You take a risk when you play the game. Hits from behind, punches etc are all part of the game and you know that when you lace them up.

You would be charged in the real world for slashing someone with a big stick, but in the game it goes uncalled most times.

Now the McSorely two hander with a stick to the head was a bit different as he used a weapon and one which you dont expect or assume risk of while on the ice.

Hmmm, I think that the Bertuzzi incident has gotten way out of hand. That hit was uncalled for and Bertuzzi should be suspended but I don't think the police should be involved. I mean, if someone gets checked into the boards or if there's a scrap or slash are you gonna charge someone for assault then too? Leave the law out of it and let the NHL deal with Bertuzzi.

The police should not be the ones to decide if charges should be layed. Vancouver has a revolving door prison system with out of control Auto and Property theft and they are wasting our taxes on this... ** That's if they decide to press charges.

Hockey is a sport careening out of control. No other major sport allows fighting to occur and when there are fights, guys get suspended.
Someone is going to get a permanent injury or worse very soon if the NHL doesn't clamp down on fighting. Saying fighting is part of the game is bullshit nonsense.
What Bertuzzi did was criminal and he should pay the price. He could have killed Steve Moore when his head hit the ice with all that weight and force behind it.
You want to see real hockey, watch the world championships or the Olympics. The NHL is organized violence.

Actually I changed my mind. Although totally uncalled for and a long suspension should be coming, a punch while playing hockey should not be looked at by police. A sucker punch or not, punching is an everyday occurance in hockey.

Bertuzzi should be banned from the game. The ultimate display of haterism

I say he should be kicked out of league and made example of just like Dale Hunter should have when he did that shit to Tergeon. Hockey is rough but no place for shit like that. No police should be involved but if he gets measly 10 game suspension, ill be pissed
