granted, i'm a passive conspiracy theorist from time to time given my past and experience with the government. i have serious doubts that the patriot act will function as the beginning of the end to all freedoms as we know it. parts have already been invalidated by our supreme court that exist on borderline infringement so the government is still functioning with checks and balances as required.

then again, ben franklin once said he who sacrifices security for freedom deserves neither. i agree with this statement. ahh duality.
It's been functioning up till now because of the little bit of resistance they had in the house and senate but now with a major Republican majority they can do whatever the fuck they want. They already use homeland security as an excuse to skirt any red tape that they may encounter with anything so what's next?

Here's a little story. My father works at a Naval Shipyard. For 25 years he has fought in the union there for better rights for workers. Fairer wages for employees. The government has recently been putting the squeeze on a couple issues and threatening to pass into law some legislation that will basically end a few things that they have fought against the government with for years, one of which being right to work. The government says that unless they can come up with the required information for their case by a certain date, the law will be passed with no contest. Well when the union asks for certain paperwork and other things that the government holds that is pertinent to their case, they are stonewalled and told that there is no way they can have the docs and information. They are an issue of "Homeland Security" ... "Sorry unions" ... "Try something else" ... "Better luck next time" The umbrella that the patrot act and homeland security has created is like a free pass for them to do whatever they want. I am no conspiracy theorist. I can see the writing on the wall and I don't like what it's saying.

Basically what I am saying is that the patriot act is bad. Very very bad. Even if they decide not to use it in a malicious way, the legislation is still in there to ALLOW them to use it however they want. That big broad umbrella is like a get out of jail free card man. I am probably just paranoid though...pay no attention to me. Just some of my thoughts.
