I moved to Canada about 5 years ago (for totally non political reasons). I live in Montreal and find that day to day life is pretty much the same. Here are the differences as I see them:
- Taxes are higher.
- Weather is generally colder.
- More french is spoken.
- Less lawsuit crazy.
- Less sexually repressed.
- More culturally repressed (ie a certain amount of radio/tv programming must be "Canadian").
- Its common to vacation in Cuba.
- 5 channels of Curling.
- More hockey coverage.
- General disdain for American beers.
- Less Michael Moore, more Atom Egoyan
- Multiple political parties, although in practice its a one party system.
- More news stories of helicopter crases and faulty submarines.
- More marijauana.
- Generally safer, but more Biker wars.
- People don't make fun of rednecks, they make fun of Newfies.
- More secessionists (Quebec).
