Many of us outside the US sincerely empathise with those of you who did not support a 4 year extension of the current regime. We had all hoped that common sense would prevail.
However, regardless of specific issues, in terms of world perception, what used to be viewed as and 'tolerated' (pending your election) as the fundamentalist ramblings and crude reactions (no pun intended) by a guy called george and his rich croneys, your democratic process suggests that the majority (albiet slight) of your country, the United States of America supports this.
This is surprising, disappointing, and very frightening.
Your country is not united - it is clearly and seriously divided as evidenced by your election results.
There are over 100,000,000 people in your country who do not endorse what has gone on in the past 4 years and, apparently, are helpless to do anything about it.
Further and unfortunately, the half of your nation which feels victimized by the rest of the planet, and believes to be under constant threat of 'attack', has been enabled by your democratic process to further its paranoia, intentional misinformation, fear mongering, 'why us' attitude, and resulting unfounded 'pre-emptive' strikes.
I don't think I'm alone when I mark a new date in my calendar as a devastating moment in world history:
Nov/02/2004
Good luck to our sensible 'American Cousins' and friends - please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you work towards a more globally respectful and responsible democracy.
We're all in this together!
