Those bastards!
Let's go attack Iraq.
Why?
They have WMD's.
No they don't.
They are a threat.
No they're not.
They have links to the people who attacked us.
No they don't.
We uhhm... want to liberate the people?

Thanks, we just lost 100 the next day, but it was worth it.
We did? And the next day?

I really don't like either candidate. But I think Kerry can't do any worse than Bush has in terms of running the country so time for a management change.
But I've talked to a lot of people who are behind Bush just for the fact they are literally afraid that Kerry won't protect the country as much. He seems strong enough to me so I don't understand why they think that.
Maybe it is time to try the dove approach and restore relations with our important allies instead of the war monger approach go it alone approach to everything like we've been doing.

The thing that gets me is how many Americans really think that the initial attacks happened for no reason... that there wasn't some cause behind it... that some sand dweller somewhere was just jealous of the "freedom."
And then... not only did the reason go over their heads, but they amplified it by trudging off to go invade countries that they didn't like some a school yard bully going for their lunch money.
How close minded can people possibly be?Comment

Sadly, true... People in the U.S. , unless they study the world... hard... and question what they're told in school, don't realize the extent to which the U.S. government exploits and opresses other countries for its own financial gain.Originally posted by MaskedMan

I don't vote because I think it's stupid to vote for someone you can't stand.... choosing one over the other just because they're your only options is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard. And I have yet in my lifetime to see a single person worthy of being president. And that includes this time around.
However, if I was going to vote, I'd vote for Bush based solely on the fact that the Kerry people talk so much shit, and it pisses them off.

All systems of Government involve social contracts between the governed and the governors. In a democracy the contract is a complicated interaction between various institutions and differs in application from place to place. However in all democracies there are common elements. One of these, for example, is the rule of law: citizens accept and submit themselves to the enforcement of laws by courts and police. Voting is the same: as part of the democratic contract it is incumbent on all eligible citizens to live up to their end of the bargain. Just as a court summons creates an obligation for a citizen to appear, so does the call to vote. Waiving this obligation is an abdication of one's responsibility under the democratic system and it robs the elected of a proper mandate to rule. It hobbles the notion of democracy and represents a breakdown in that social contract.
Unfortunately too many view democracy as something of a menu, where many parts can be picked and choosen as they like. That erodes the very basis of the system, one of the key elements that allows the citizenery to exert their limited control over those that rule. If you fail to live up to that then you have no right to take issue with the results. Furthermore some argue free will allows for non-voting, which is obvious claptrap. Democracy does confirm many freedoms, but always with limits; and they also use coercion. You are not free to choose to shoot your fellow citizen. You are not free to abuse free speech to impeach someone else's character without basis. You are not free to speed as fast you can on the road. You must pay tax. You must obey the law. The idea doesn't stand up that not voting is allowed because of free will. Otherwise we are living in anarchy, not democracy. For those that argue that limits on freedoms come into play only when they impact someone else, not voting falls in the same category. By not making any choice the non-voter robs a democracy of legitimacy and thus affects everybody. There are many reasons people choose not to vote: antipathy or ambivalence to the candidates, laziness, ignorance, or a combination of these. None are legitimate excuses for avoiding your end of the social contract."There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die." -Hunter S. ThompsonComment

A few recent polls have shown about half of Bush supporters have their head up their ass. One poll showed 50% of Bush supporters still believe Iraq had something to do with 9/11.
Beyond all that, Bush has created hatred that this country has not seen in decades. He has done nothing but divide this country. He has recklessly misused out military, created a deficit that will take generations to overcome,
placed corporations ahead of people, and has done nothing to find a solution to the epidemic of diseases we find ourselves faced with. How anyone sees anything good about his policies is beyond me.
Kerry on the other hand I believe has the right idea of how the country should be heading. Whether or not he would be successful remains to be seen, but I don't worry about him getting us in misguided wars and fucking with the constitution. Any man that comes back from a war and has the balls to follow his conscience shows he is more of a man than Bush will ever be.Comment

I don't like to call people idiots, especially people I don't know personally, but seriously, it doesn't make sense to me to vote for Bush. I don't particuarly like Kerry, either, but why Bush?
This is how I see it. Why vote for a man who has been PROVEN to be a bad leader (numerous mistakes with Bin Laden, Iraq, WMD, etc.), conservative, outspokenly anti-porn, loss of jobs, taking us from the largest government surplus in recent history to the largest deficit in history, etc... when you can vote for a man with a clean presidential slate who MIGHT do a better job?
If someone showed you two doors and told you there was a man with a gun who would shoot you dead instantly behind one, and either another man who would shoot you dead instantly or a million dollars behind the second door, and one of the doors was made of glass and you could SEE a man with a gun behind it, which one would you open?
Most folks would just walk away, I would imagine, but what if you felt you HAD to do one or the other?
If you don't like Kerry, fine, but for god's sake, why vote for Bush when it has been proven that he's a horrible president? Just don't vote at all.Comment

However, if I was going to vote, I'd vote for Bush based solely on the fact that the Kerry people talk so much shit, and it pisses them off.
Voting is a privelege people.... not a requirement. You're still free to exercise your right to not give a fuck.
I will probably have more than 50 decisions to make on my ballot.
State Issues
Many, many Local Issues
Federal candidates
State candidates
County candidates
City candidates
Shit there will be a ton of crap to vote on.
I feel sorry for people who think ?voting? is just for picking a President.Comment
