    Chiropractors evil or good?

How many here visit a chiropractor? Do you trust them or swear by them? Ive been visiting one for 3 months, and I admit It has been helping with what I went for, but lately my neck is stiff and shoulders are stiff more then they use to be. It's like one problem has been solved and now another one is beginning. Ive heard horror stories about them breaking peoples necks, but I also know "real" medical doctors that visit them.
    I need some advice here.

Sounds like what happened to my dad. He had trouble with his upper back and went to a chiropractor regularly...it helped, but his hip and lower back started giving him trouble. Now he can barely walk. Heard similar things about other people as well. Of course, one can't know for sure if it's related or not.

I love going to the Chiropractor. The only problem with mine is that if you show your face once he wants to try and get you in there 3-4 times a week. My co-pay is like $10 so it's not all that bad. He's probably making a killing of my 4 weekly visits.

fuck that's what happened to me. I went in for a bad hip (im 27 it was a drunken accident...lol) and they took xrays, pictures of me in my posture and the next thing I know they are telling me if I dont keep coming back im going to end up looking like the pope by the time im 45. $2500.00 later and 3 visits a week now im going. But I admit, my hip and neck are better, but now other parts are feeling like shit and I can't help but wonder what is really going on here...

Chriopractors are awesome.. Spinal health is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle, and aside from keeping you from being sore, it can help promote longevity and help prevent some illnesses. Chropractors are NOT quacks for the most part.. they are licensed medical professionals who are required to go to medical school and pass tests just as rigorous as other medical professionals.. See if you have a local Chropractic association that can provide you with a list of certified professionals and choose from that list.

Good luck, and honestly, give it a try a
few times... Subluxation is a common problem that is rarely recognized OR treated, yet it's a cause of a good many common ailments that people complain about and are easily preventable.

There's a reason for repeated visits you realize... and most often times after those 3-4 visits you don't need to go back for months or years...

The muscles that support you bone structure have a "memory"... and when you have a vertibrae that is out of place and gets put back in, the muscles "remember" that that's not where it was before and tend to pull it back out, which pretty much nullifies any helpful effects that reaglinment would have given. In order to change the "memory" of the muscles, you need to go back a few times to make sure that the new alignment sticks.

This is part of the reason so many people go to chiropractors and get put off.. they think it should all be fixed in one quick visit.. What about physiotherapy? There IS no quick fix, but in all honesty, you will likely visit a chiropractor less for a better result than you would physio or other solutions.

                  Good! Very good.

Solved some major problems with my back.
                  Also solved my headache problem.

I go once a month now for wellness and that is
all anyone should have to go unless they have
                  severe problems which need correction.

the whole thing seems dodgy to me, they seem to make one thing feel better while they slowly fuck another part of your body.

Before you know it, you're there every day, and for big money too.

it's all too much hocus pocus for me..

Interesting thread, I was thinking of going to see one or the other. I fucked my back up playing hockey a few weeks ago and its been really uncomfortable. My ever expanding beer belly doesn't help either.

Lose the beer belly and have more sex, that's an excellent workout for the spine.

No truly good therapy is painless... It's SUPPOSED to hurt, if it doesn't it means that nothing has changed.. give it a chance for a month and see if you don't feel better... I've gone since I was young, it's done nothing but help me.. I take my kids too and honestly, if I hadn't gone I'd be half crippled by now.

I know there's a reason. I don't mind. I love being cracked and twisted. There's plenty of time in my day to take a few minutes to go and get aligned. I've tried to keep it to two times a week, but they always manage to convince me to come more.

If I was to go back to school, I'd go to be a Chiropractor. I've been to two of them. Both we young. Both worked 3 days a week. Both make a real nice living and everyone calls them Doctor

We have a personal friend who is a Chiropractor and we see him for free. I used to think it was some sort of scam that Chiropractors would bring you back in so often, but now that we have been seeing him for almost 4 years we can understand the method to the madness.

At first most patients may have to come in several times a week as when they get an alignment done, most of the time things will slip back to where they were before until your body adjust to the way things are supposed to be.

Most people will go through a painful period after starting treatment. This is because as your back and neck have slowly gotten out of alignment over the years a lot of the time it has pinched nerves and become cronic, as the disk are moved and those nerves become un pinched, you start to feel pain in them again until your back is all the way in alignment again.

After you are back in shape it's just a matter of once a month visits or so to keep things where they need to be.

So, in a nut shell if you get a Chiropractor that knows his shit, you will be good to go

most of the people in my family have gone to these evil doers for years and they all had to quit going....they were ending up far worse in the long run than when they started..even with the reasons they went in the first place.

it seems that if this so called doctor keeps working the same area over and over and over, it will eventually cause permanent damage.

i have never gone to one. and i spent many years doing heavy labour...i just let normal exercise fix the problems

for the most part if you hurt yourself, don't just sit down and let it stiffen up. get up and move...it may be sore...but doing some limited activities will usually let your body fix itself...
