Look for any version from 2.5 to 3.1

I have Xpress and DVD X Copy, both are great.
With Xpress, it let's you put the full DVD on 1 disc, but eliminates the menu options, which works for me.
DVD X Copy let's you use the menu, but usually requires 2 DVD's to make, unless it's only an hour DVD.
My question is this. If I had to reformat my drive and re-install my programs, would this program still work and make copies or do they make you log into their web site and add a file that doesn't let you copy them anymore? (rumor I heard)
I still have my programs working, but I'm scared to reformat for fear of losing that ability.
