That was the first reaction I thought of when it was mentioned he was called about SEO. TrafficPower is famous for their direct phone marketing of their SEO stuff. Of course, they're hoping you'll join before you can actually do a background search on their famous spamming and blacklisting techniques.
So many clients have been scammed by them, there's actually a coalition being setup for class-action status against them in court:
