With the price of bandwith nowdays and the fact that more and more surfers are on broadband a 40k min for pics was chosen i even looked over my own personal galleries and did not find 1 with pics under 40k.

30kb is reasonable. Plenty of pics are of good quality and yet are optimized to 30kb. As long as the webmaster knows what he/she is doing I don't see where image size should be a deciding factor. Obviously you want quality, but at the same time you don't want to just give it all away either.

I'm sure most would be able to work with a 30kb limit.

I feel that the majority of people submitting under 40k pics will not have them optimized well.

You can optimize anything down to like 30k .. hell even 25k if u put time into it .. prolly even less and have it very comparable to the 40k version in the surfers eyes .. it just saves the submitter money ....

Just look at the pics, if you could rub one out to them, they're golden.
