They needed the measuring devices to determine if the correct amount of "information " had been sent , or if teh send proccess needed to be continued.
this was very much seat of the pants operations, much like our construction of criuse missles, of which were maybe 70% handmade individual parts and procedures. Each one was a "work of love" so to say.
whats disturbing is I personally help design and construct in batches, 477 nuclear stealth cruise missles which - to my knowledge have never been used or disscused, ever.
I have photos of said item includeding sketches and diagrams that Hughes left behind.

Something that I've been wondering about and I know our guys are working on is this . When the Soviet Union fell it was found out they had been working on a way to travel underwater at speeds faster than sound. What this would mean is not only could you travel underwater faster than sound, but so could a missile or torpedo which wouldn't be able to be detected until it was too late.
