There is some political issue with sending troops to Pakistan, a nuclear power. However, a successful assassination of Musharaf would leave US forces no choice but go in to secure the country and the nuclear arsenal as well as prevent India from doing the same.
Things are obviously very fluid around the Afghan/Pak border but if they catch him soon, it would be best to keep it secret until right before the election for the greatest impact.
