I got fucked in the ass by a dialer phone bill

I got my phone bill last night and see $131.88 for a call done in Sao Tomé (in Africa, I think!), so I call my phone company today to enquire about this amount. They tell me it was from a dial up don on my computer, and that I must pay since it came from my phone....think is, I never did visit the dialer site

I got so pissed that retained the service of a lawyer to write me a little lletter saying that is a fraud and that I will not pay the dialer bill. It going to cost me $175-$200 for this letter, but I really don't care.

call them back and tell them you spoke with your lawyer and you are not going to pay. if they care to press the issue, you wont have any problem what so ever bringing this to the public eye, and to court.

that should cool em out and knock it off your bill
want to buy this spot for cheap? it is of course for sale. long term deals are always the best bet. brand0n/ at/ a o l dot commies.

I told them I want to contest this fee, but the phone cleck said that I had to pay to fee, and a bunch of the bs so I hung up on her and called a lawyer to write me a letter...

How does the phone company know it was your computer dialing instead of a voice call? Something smells fishy.

The clerck told me it was a dialup and explained it happened and that I had to update my virus program every week to protect my computer...nevertheless I had to pay the bill because it came from my phone.

Yea FUCK auto-dialing dialers. That's just a pain in the ass for the whole industry. Few people benefit but it hurt us more than other things

I work with dialers and know companies that have theire numbers in Africa.

1, get the new Northon Antivirus + firewall.
2, don´t surf with dialup. Broadband is a must!
                                3, update your computor.

4, I think you have to pay... if you think your lawyer is good... theire lawyers is best... trust me

You don't understand, I think. I did not use the service of the dialer but yet they want me to pay for it. If I use a service or product, I will pay. But if I never used the service, why should I pay!

So yes, I'd rather pay a lawyer to write them a letter explaining that I was a victim of a fraud than pay a webmaster(company) that fucked me in the ass...

This happened to my son. A dialer disconnected him and reconnected to Madagascar. Imagine OUR surprise at the 442 dollar bill. We called the phone company and told them we did not do it and we will not pay it.

They do allow a one time credit for such things. Call them back and talk to someone who knows what they're talking about. You shouldn't need a lawyer for this.

Hey Alex the EXACT same thing happened here.

My submitter was here working on dial-up and he ended up hitting a TGP's 404 page. Next thing we know we hear the computer dialing, but don't see anything going on on the screen.
We went through the task manager and everywhere we could think of but couldn't find any way to stop it and we couldn't reconnect through bellsouth.
We finally had to reboot the computer to get it to stop. We ran spybot on his computer and it deleted a bunch of shit and we thought we had it.

Then on the next month's phone bill we had an assload of calls to guess where, Sao Tome.
At 7 different times during the month this dialer started itself, connected for 7-15 minutes, and then disconnected. It was about $70 in charges.
I called the phone company and told them what happened and they said its an internet scam that they're VERY aware of, they credited the money back to my account and suggested I put a international block on my phone.

You should talk to someone else at the phone company.

I'd also like to add that the programmer who coded this dialer ought to be hung by his nutsac.
Its bad enough that dialers charge 8 bazillion dollars a minute just to access some shitty content. But this dialer installed itself without ever prompting us, it dialed by itself without ever asking us.

THEN it connected and not only did we not get any porn out of the deal, there was no way to find the god damn thing on the computer to shut it off. Can't even find it to uninstall it.
What the fuck do these people do at night when I'm sleeping?
                                                sig too big

Can you check your bill to if it is the following phone number: 239281176 from Sao Tome?
