Basically (and simplified) stem cells are cell that are yet to develop a distinct feature or role. That means they can be "persuaded" to be any kind of cell - I guess you could call it a non-developed cell.
What the research is trying to do, is making the cells develop into a certain cell, so that it could be inserted where needed (eyes for people with bad sight, brain for people with Alzheimer's).Comment
