When in cali, stop to get LOTS of water.. like a case man... That way while your driving and sweating your ass off you can stay hydrated and not worry about the water of mejico..
I think some areas you have to turn your ac off to protect the car.. Not sure if this time of year is like that though..I'm here for the violence!Comment

If you want to drive becuase you are afraid to fly, then you should take a first class bus. They have AC, very comfortable seats, bathrooms, and movies, and they drive for youOriginally posted by SleazyDream

If you want to drive so you will have a car when you get here, you should just rent a car.
But, if you really want to drive, you will probably ok, I know several people that have driven down all the way from Canada and made it ok. Be prepared to pay out the ass for shitty toll roads, and keep your toll stubs because the govt will pay for your repair fees if your car breaks while you are driving on the extreemly crappy roads. You will probably get lost, so leave a few days early so you will make it on time.
Also, bring cash to pay the tolls and bribe the cops since they will probably pull you over so they can get "tips" since you will have US plates.
MAKE SURE YOU DONT DRIVE THOUGH MX CITY!

Trade the rental car for a slightly used 1968 jeep.
Party in Matzatlan, with 300 of our closest friends.
Detour to Puerto Vallarta to take a 3 minute intensive Mexican foreign language course.
Meet some new Friends.
Stay for a couple nights in their guest room, in Mexico City.
Pick up some souvenirs for the Road.
Pass the time on the Mountain Roads by looking for the Native Mexican Gorillas, I've heard so much about.
Probably be a farily uneventful trip from there.
Snorkle in Merida.
And then hit Cancun anything from 6 - 12 days later and $8400 dollars lighter.Comment
