This is not predictions really because I seriously doubt I will be right about one of them, but its how I would like it to go:
Actor in a leading role: Johnny Depp
Actor in supporting role: Tim Robbins
Actress in a leading role: Charlize Theron
Actress in a supporting role: Renee Zellwegger
Animated Feature Film: Finding Nemo
Best Picture: Lost in Translation
Directing: Lost in Translation
Visual Effects: Lord of the rings return of the king
Ok here is my list (keep in mind I haven't seen almost ALL of these films
I think I've seen a total of 3 films in the past year)
Best Actor:
Ben Kingsley (based on his acting ability and I know it WONT be johnny depp coz I DID see that film and it was too comedic to warrant a best actor role)
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
Djimon Hounsou - IN AMERICA (because the Oscars always go to artsy films movies noone watches)
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE:
whale rider (same reason)
ANIMATED FEATURE FILM:
Finiding Nemo - no surprises there
ART DIRECTION:
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING ()bvious)
LOTR will also win every oscar it is nominated for EXCEPT for Music and makeup - makeup I believe will go to Pirates of the Carribean
pretty lame bunch of movies this year
no wonder I didnt see any of them
although I must admit I really enjoyed Pirates - even though I hate johnny depp and protested not to go see it - but it was the only film showing at the drive-in that week
I hope to christ Murray wins for best actor. It'd be cool if Translation or Rings won for picture or directing, but I'm willing to bet Mystic River will get it.
I just rented "Lost in Translation", weird flick. but I liked it.
So, I would like to see Bill get best actor.
A side note: Scarlett Johansson is a fox and was great in it also.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING (better win or the TV gets a shoe in the screen & the Oscars get a permanent black eye)
BEST DIRECTOR
Peter Jackson, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Bill Murray - LOST IN TRANSLATION
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Ken Watanabe - THE LAST SAMURAI (an upset)
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Charlize Theron - MONSTER (the only choice this year, although look for Naomi Watts to win another time)
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Patricia Clarkson - PIECES OF APRIL (Renee denied yet again)
ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
FINDING NEMO
ART DIRECTION
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING
CINEMATOGRAPHY
CITY OF GOD (although why ROTK isn't nominated for Cinematography is beyond me)
COSTUME DESIGN
THE LAST SAMURAI (ROTK should win but won't)
FILM EDITING
MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD
FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS
MAKEUP
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING
MUSIC (SCORE)
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING (Howard Shore for a magnificent score)
MUSIC (SONG)
"Into the West" - THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING (anyone who watched the end credits knows what I'm talking about)
SOUND EDITING
MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD
SOUND MIXING
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING
VISUAL EFFECTS
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING
WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY)
SEABISCUIT
WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY)
LOST IN TRANSLATION (Sofia's first Oscar win, of which there will be more to follow in her future)
********************************
So I have THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING as the big winner, of 8 out of 11. The ratings will also be up this year due to the popularity of this movie. The ratings always increase when a huge box office grosser is nominated for a lot of awards.
