Level(3) is not the best - Reason why sites are Down!

This isnt the first time Level(3) has fucked up this bad...

I was waiting for this to happen again to post this, I see everyone giving props to L3 for being the best on this board, but its no where near it.

Here: I'd say the most pushed Level(3) reseller, pretty well promoted on this board by its junkies. (not going to mention the name, but Im sure you can guess it.)

Loading for you? Not for me.

Just an example, that single homing = always bad. (especially with level3, lol)

If you have a site you cant reach, its because youre being routed through Level(3) which is apparently having issues in North America. Im not sure on the routes from EU, but it is affecting people visiting sites in USA.

Always take a host that has BGP4 routing ;-)

                  www.isprime.com for example

I am getting tons of timeouts from work, but someone else pings the same sites from their places and no time outs.

At least I can breathe a little easier knowing it's not at my data center.

Thus the reason to choose your host carefully!

we have multiple connections to multiple carriers inckluding L3, Glbx, MCI, Nac Net etc...as we'll as multiple peering arrangements...have a problem with one BGP to another. A good host should never put all their eggs in one (carrier) basket.

                        Yup

When we saw that Level(3) was experience problems, we routed most of our traffic away from L3 and onto our other carrier drops.

This way, it caused the least amount of service disruption to our clients, and their clients as well!

Unlike some of the hosts here who went down for quite some time, we were up the entire time!

                          Exactly.

If you have a host that doesn't do this.... time to move.

                            Level 3 Communications, Inc.

One of the largest Tier 1 providers in the US with over 100 major U.S. points of presence and globally with presence in over 50 countries, Level 3 provides first class global connectivity for mission critical applications. The Level 3 global network consists of over 20,000 miles of fiber supporting one of the largest, most reliable, high-capacity networks the Internet has ever known. In additional to its over 150 POPs globally, Level 3 has also established private peering sessions with most other Tier 1 and Tier 2 providers as well as public peering sessions with most NAPs and public exchange points globally

oh lvlt has a market cap of 2.2 billion bucks and is publicly traded.
and warren buffit is a big investor in the company. It must suck balls and be cheesy though. I am sure no one elses provider ever looses a router LOL cuzz ther provider is perfect with 100% uptime for the last 5 years. I been hosting with companies for almost 10 years now. and everyone always has downtime due to hardware faliure or power failiure or cables that get eaten by rats at som nap somewhere. Its just part of the internet people...
