    Why are people so obsessed with money?

    Ofcourse, one needs money to live, but I've never understood why so many people seem to have making money as their single most important goal in life.

    Why is money so appealing that you're willing to give up most of your time - the only thing man truly has in life - in order to make more of it than you can spend on things essential to your happiness?

              Running a business is fun, but after a while it gets kinda old, and there is only so much money you can actually put to good use. New, expensive toys start getting boring eventually, and the thrill of watching your bank account grow isn't everlasting either.

                  It is to me. When it's not I'll stop. Money has been my love and hobby since I was 4 or 5 years old. Can't help it.

                      Cause money easily ends in itself.

                      Those who're really out to make it (and I'm not talking about the "webmasters" who are employed or going to school and want everything forcefed) are constantly innovating and are never satisfied.

                      They need something to do and be stressed and needed, if they don't have anything they'll get sick and die like my granddad did when he stopped working and had nothing to do.

                      It's a jerk circle without being able to close the browser

                                  To me, it's work first, play later. I'm 30 years old now and I'd rather work my ass off and make as much money as I can to build myself a house also put money away for retirement.

                                  Nobody knows when the porn internet profitability is gonna hit a wall, it could be 2 years, 5 years, 10 years or even 20 years, so it's best to get it while the getting is good.

                                  ALSO, I don't wanna be 50 years old worrying about money, I'd rather solve that problem now

                                      Good question punkworld. I fine myself in that boat myself now. I spend about 16 hours a day online reading and trying to learn new things. My health has gone downhill , I sleep if im lucky about 4 hours a day and my social life is all but gone. Now when i started 2 years ago on the net i would of asked the same question as you. Now i am one of the ones you are asking about.

                                          Nope, just me. I was selling pickles and candy to the black kids on my block when I was 5 or so. I ran a 7 day a week kool-aid stand during the summer. Bought a lawn mower with my 10th birthday money I got. Rented a table at a sports cards show at 13 and made more than all but 2 other tables. And on and on.

                                          I've been completely fascinated with things of value for as long as I can remember and have always had cash in my pocket. Like someone said above, if I don't have something stressing me out I feel like complete shit. Diagnose me with whatever but I wouldn't have it any other way. The "living life" you mention is exactly what I'm doing because I want nothing more. Don't get me wrong, I love to have fun and I'm known to do shit on the spur of the moment. We hit Mardi Gras for 10 days with my first adult check in 2001.

                                              I'm almost not money driven at all.

                                              I think I am just satisfied with being better than average, that's it...

                                              I make some easy money, but unfortunately I am never able to forc me to do some hard work, although I really wish I could.

                                              I even considered to hire a psychologist and agree to pay him a % of my earnings, if only he could motivate me to make some real money, LOL.

                                                  Whoa now, who said anything about hard work? I refuse to do many things online personally. That is the only area I'm not happy with online is finding good help. I've worked with some solid people online but everyone I have hired locally hasn't performed to my expectations. I like to get shit rolling and pass it off even if it's for a large % instead of an hourly rate. Had a partner of some sort in almost everything I've done online.

                                                      I've actually spent a while working most of my time, and as a result of that still make good money.
                                                      A while ago, I was planning to start up several new businesses that would've brought in loads and loads of money (I never fail at what I do) and would have forced me to work 80+ hours a week for several years.
                                                      So, I know what it's like.

                                                      However, when I took some time to actually think over my decisions, I realized that I absolutely don't consider money the #1 priority in life. I'd actually rather be a broke writer than a billionaire business owner.
                                                      Now, before I take my first steps on the path to becoming a broke writer, I'm trying to find out what drives those who live for money, to find out if I might be missing an important factor in the decision after all

                                                          my job is osrt of like a big video game. A strtegic one. I played chess as a kid and this is very close to that. I love the challenge. Do I get sick of grunt stuff, you bet? I put all of my extra money into real estate so even thought I make a lot of money I don't have it too spend. It keeps me striving.

If I'd be happier as a broke writer I'd unplug my pc today given I could still take care of my wife and kid. I'd suggest finding someone to run your stuff to give you time off but nobody I hire is ever worth a fuck anyhow.

                                                                  Yeah, but you have some very intelligent ideas that make certain bank. ;)

                                                                  I am on the same level though, I don't think I could cut it working regular 10-12 hour days online doing repetitive stuff submitting galleries, etc, in order to make real bank.

                                                                  Not because I am lazy, I can motivate to work offline, but sitting at the computer all day and doing nothing but work is even more tideous than manual labor for me.

                                                                          I have to make bank all at once or I would lose interest completely. I was in shock for 2 weeks when I first learned what many people here earn a month.

                                                                          I can also handle repetive stuff offline better than online for some reason. I feel much better working "hard" all day than sitting here, I feel like I'm dying sometimes.

                                                                                  Having someone run your stuff still requires actually being involved, unless you strike the jackpot and find the one in a million guy who can actually do stuff himself yet is content working for someone else.
                                                                                  I find it almost impossible to combine business with other stuff. Once my mind is in "business mode", I am completely unable to think science or art.

                                                                                          Exactly my feeling. I have a long-term project car I have been working on, and whenever I bore myself online I just visit the garage and work on that for a while to loosen up. If I tried to sit at a computer and do repetitive stuff for 12 hours straight I think I would die. The money factor just doesn't motivate me enough to do it.

                                                                                              I think personaly it has to do with me growing up poor. I never had the clothes,shoes and the other stuff that kids had. My grandparents raised me as i think back i see ithat i missed out on alot. Now i have my own family now with kids and i am so stuck on makeing money so i can give them everything i missed out on. The obsession with me and mony is awful. I wake up out of my sleep sometimes because i fel i forgot to do something that day. Buy once i reach my goal of income hopefully i will go back to my old self.

Take the thing you most like to do in this world and quit doing it and see how you feel. It's 100% depressing. It's just a personality trait some people have and most don't.

                                                                                                                              these types of people who are "obsessed with money" are driven. they love the challange of opening a new business, coming up with a new idea where money is the reward at the end of all this. to put it plainly, it's a classic dependency personality.

                                                                                                                              keep in mind however, that these types of people also need to fail from time to time. i say this because this failure is needed to become more driven then before. some may disagree with me on this but this is basic psychology. no one likes to lose (especially those who are competitve) but losing is needed to make one move forward.

                                                                                                                              the problem with this is that those who crash hard and burn the worst will come back more determined then before. in a way that is good but most of the time this determination will ruin their life on some level if not all.

                                                                                                                              money makes the world go round and the more you have, the easier it is to live but for a person who is competitve, money is a reward and is used as a tool to be more competitive. making hords of money is no different (when broken down to shear basics) then playing sports or any other arena in life that rewards you with cash.

                                                                                                                              think about it and you will see what i mean.

                                                                                                                              i guess you can call it survival of the fittest or he/she who has the most wins....something along those lines.

In today's society money is much more than just a reward. In fact, money could be considered the centre of western culture. It's a means, an end, recognition, power and much, much more all rolled into one.

                                                                                                                                                                  I know for me, it's more of the challenage than the money. I actually don't care much about money. I'd be happy with just enough money to live comfortably. I actually give money to friends to help with their debts and stuff to help them live comforatably. I don't have the need to buy exotic cars and boats. Although, I do buy nice things.

                                                                                                                                                                  It's more of a competition thing with me. I always have a close friend that either makes more money than me and I got to make more than him, or can play guitar better than me and I have to be able to play better than him, can wakeboard better than me and I have to try and wakeboard than him. I have a need to out do my friends (probably because it's challenaging). I'm going to start superbike racing next month. I'll probably just throw all my extra money into that and have a new challenage of trying to beat other people on the race course.

                                                                                                                                                                  It pretty much comes down to the challenge and as others have mentioned, the money is just the benefit from the challenge.

But mine is a combination of two of the reasons I gave earlier, I want my family to never want for anything in their entire lives, that even goes for my grands kids, my great grand kids, and so on.                                                                                                                                                                               When i started, i thought i would be rolling in it when i hit 1k AUD/month. I could buy a new freaking car every couple months!! Oh boy, the day i could do that would be a sweet one. I thought it would somehow make the world of difference in everything about my life.

                                                                                                                                                                              When i got there, I discovered everything was exactly the same - except i made 1k/month. Then i set out for 3k, 5k, 10k and so on.

                                                                                                                                                                              After reaching a few of theses goals, I started to figure out the fun was in the fight, the climb, the game of it all rather than having more money(which was great too of course!).

                                                                                                                                                                              I've started to try and make my life more enjoyable- earlier on i was afraid to stop working at all out of fear i would lose ground, or slow down. Take a few more trips, hang with friends and family, learn something new, buy something nice, and just enjoy the freedom that money can buy.

                                                                                                                                                                              I don't really know what i'll end up doing with my life, but i love the freedom, reward and endless challenge that comes with being successful in business.

                                                                                                                                                                              I haven't gotten over the thrill of putting something together that works!

                                                                                                                                                                              Oh, also, the lifestyle money can buy you seems pretty sweet I've only gotten a small taste of that so far, but I would definitley like to experience living-really-well(of course all our defenitions are different) at some point in my life adventure.

I never opened a physical store but cleared almost 20k a month on ebay when I was 18. Decided not on the b&m shop and focused on online ventures.

I was discussing this with a friend the other night. Whats the point of having millions and never being able to spend it all.. I would give money away to those that need it and have fun doing the things I loved.

                                                                                                                                                                                          I see no point in working my self into the ground and when I am 60 saying.. hmmmmm I wish I would have went snowboarding when I was YOUNG enough to really enjoy it.
