And your comment about "mexico = pesos" isn't exactly accurate either. In the several trips I've taken there they happily accepted US currency everywhere. At the front desk of my hotel they always exchanged my US traveller's cheques with not a word about it other than "gracias meester smeeth"

The only 2 places I've used US in Mexico is with cabs & airport food. Mind you, they do change my US to Pesos as well.
