    New VISA M/C Rules VEROTEL

    Hi All,

Is Verotel in VISA's and MasterCard's gunsights? The E-mail from Verotel today is very disturbing. Has anyone else got it and looked at the new requirement to register with the Netherland's chamber of commerce?

From what I understand, if you make more than $1000/month then your company name will be on your customers credit card statements rather than Verotel's name.

That letter didn't strike me as odd. I was in contact recently with another processor in the EU and they won't even set people up unless they have a company.

I think that's a good thing. Too many people are still hiding behind the anonimity of 3rd party processors.

Verotel has an important update about four different subjects:

                  1. Recurring transactions on February 20th and February 21st.
                  2. Short outages on February 22nd and February 24th
                  3. Verotel Pro webmasters, changed IPSP regulations per April 1st
                  4. Webmaster Event Europe 2004, April 26th

                  1. Recurring transactions

Because of a technical problem with Verotel's systems and databases
on February 20th and 21st (last week) the recurring transactions
(extension of subscriptions) were not processed on these days.

However, NO transactions have been lost. All subscriptions due
for extension on February 20th and February 21st have been
extended on February 22nd - February 24th and date/time stamped
                  on these new dates.

The extended subscriptions, which were due to be extended on
February 20th and February 21st, but extended in the period of
February 22nd - February 24th, will be normally extended again
on March 20th and March 21st, if the subscription is not cancelled
                  or refunded.

                  2. Short outages

Due to system maintenance and backup procedures, Verotel experienced
short downtimes on February 22nd between 19h15 and 20h15 Central
European Time, and on February 24th between 01h15 and 03h15 Central
                  European Time.

We regret that we had such a disturbance in our service (both
the recurring transaction failure and the short outages) and we
apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. We are
currently upgrading our services to ensure that such an outage
                  cannot happen again.

                  3. Verotel Pro

Starting April 1st 2004 VISA and MasterCard require that there is
more transparency regarding larger merchants for which Verotel
processes. End-users need to know which company they are dealing
with when they are using their credit card on the Internet.
This is good for your business and ours, as it will reduce the number
                  of chargebacks and complaints.

The solution is that larger merchants will need to show their
company name on the descriptor portion of credit card
statements. Currently the name 'VEROTEL' shows up on an enduser's
credit card statement. Webmasters that process, on average,
more than USD 1,000 a week, have been selected to become a
VEROTEL PRO customer, and it is required that the webmaster's
company name is shown on the descriptor.

The affected webmasters will be notified by registered/courier
mail and by e-mail within the next couple of days.

Please read the full story at:
                  http://www.verotel.com/new_ipsp.html

                  4. Webmaster Event Europe

The Webmaster Event Europe is going strong! Verotel will sponsor this
event on April 26th 2004. Please review the website at:
                  http://www.wee2004.com

I haven't been able to talk to anyone at Verotel but it seems to be a matter of registering your company in Holland so it is in effect legally the same as a Dutch BV incorporation. So therefore you are operating in the EU as a Dutch BV.

In some cases you may have to disclose yearly figures if such is the law in the country of origin. And I think the forms have to be filed in Dutch as well as English. This will be an adventure for sure.

So true, Joost and his team at Verotel are always staying ahead of the game, these changes have been made BEFORE they were required to by any demands.

They don't react, they set the standards.

Remember that VISA Europe APPROVED them to take over the Globill database... they wouldn't do that to a short term proposition would they?

People - do your research, because everything is of public record if you bother to look further than GFY...

Does the new rules means we have to pay taxes to the dutch government as well? Just read it in the chamber of commerce there.

I suppose we need to get our package from Verotel to see, I hope we can just register an overseas company , I've done some prelim reading and that may be the case....

I mean, registering an O/S company with their chamber of commerce or whatever they call it, like a verification more than a local registration,... not sure if that's what verotel is after though... Although the government site only used German companies as an example , so that's not majorly promising.

It depends where you are located. The US and the EU have arrangements where tax can be paid at either the home or business location.

I see where you're at now, if that's the the case it could be good for some that are trying to launder money through dodge countries...

For most of us, we have to get it all back to the US and in my case australia to pay affiliates, so it's not related to us, however, I can imagine that some people would find angles with anything they do..
