    In This Age of Broadband is There Any Money in Photo Only Sites?

    Now that Broadband has gained popularity and dial-up is nearly extinct, is there still any interest in photo sites? People like to see the action and watch movies vs. still shots, IMHO.

    I'm getting a lot of content together in order to launch a couple sites and was just curious if any folks out there have photo only sites as well as movie sites and what the average conversion difference is between the two?

                      True it will dwindle down in the future but the internet is massive (like my cock) and a very good percentage are on dialup.

                      We in the US are spoiled cause we have easy access to it but what about Abdul in pakistan?

                                  I think paysites who only offer photos must have:

                                  * 100% exlusive content
                                  * very high quality content

                                  as far as niches go
                                  i think picture only works for the softcore niches but def. not for hardcore

                                  i wouldnt open a paysite that offers no movies since they surely make people recurr longer hehe

                                      There will always be a place for pic only sites. I knwo of MANY paysites that have maybe 60 second of video total. the rest being gigs upon gigs of picture content. Not everyone likes movies. Personaly I HATE movies. Can a movie really capture that one fraction of a second where the girls poses so good you get a woody just remmebering it? Pics tend to be of higher quality than movies as well. Can you honnestly say that dvd quality 1600x1200 vids exist? Nope.

                                          It's my opinion but the more the price drops for broadband the more folks will convert. This is the reasoning behind this thread, in order to gauge how many sites convert movies better than images.

Because I do video on all my other sites, when I took it on, I wasn't so sure how it would do, but it has surprised me

                                                      If my ASS-umption is correct, it's false advertising... the only way I can figger that dialup can be "sped up" is with very extensive caching... in which case, how is one dialup gonna reload a dynamic auction page faster than another?

                                                          We have about 15 video feeds that we license from third parties, but it's absolutely not a focus of our site. Customer surveys show that video is the "main reason" for signing up for only about 5% of our paying customers. "Picture content" is the main reason for about 70% of them.

                                                          So yes, picture-only sites can definitely survive in the age of broadband. Use good pics and offer them in very high resolutions at high quality (in addition to standard 640x480, most of ours are available at 1024x768 @ 200kb, and many are 1536 x 1152 @ 400k).

                                                                      If you got the right niche or exclusive content you can do quite well with only pictures. Dont forget member interaction to keep them interested and updates so there is always something new to check out.

                                                                      It's not like having tons of movies is a garaunteed winner either, think of a bad members area and no updates and see how long your members will retain.

                                                                          Videos are the least looked at.

                                                                                          Most surfers are looking for their fantasy. What trips their trigger in their head. A picture that allows their imagination to add details will do that a lot faster than a movie that may deviate from exactly what it is that puts the fuzz on their ducky.

Good example a guy canceled one of my sites, we always ask y trying to make our sites better. He said he was a windows 98 and couldnt play our windows media 9 files. We as nerds assume everyone is on the fastest best systems and they are not. My aunt is on a vaio thats 333 mhz and her daughter my cousin is on 700 mhz and they dont plan on upgrading. Alot of people see the computer as entertainment and wont spend alot on it .
