what's your motivation for being an employee?

    Stability?
    Predictable paychecks?
Someone to tell you what to do?
Not having to have "the vision"?

I'm wondering why someone would want to work under someone else, considering you could make more if you're on your own. Being an employee means making money for someone else, it sometimes confuses me that people would want to sacrafice the profits that can be had by working for yourself.

        stable money.

Though you can make more when youre out on your own, it takes time and isnt stable to start with.

One day ill be my own boss heh

I can't see any reason at all for it.

Never been employeed in my life and never will. Sounds really stupid to be the "middle"-hand when you instead can earn all the cash yourself.

None. Work for yourself and employ others instead.

There are a number of benefits to being an employee..... If for some reason the company folds in the morning, all I need to do is go and get another job. I won't have to worry about the aftermath. I also don't have to worry lawsuits like Acacia.

I've seen way too many people strike it out on their own only to fail big time.

                  I'd also include;
                  - Resources i would not otherwise have access to, bigger budgets etc.
                  - Gaining valuable experience, playing with 'toys' i could not afford myself for many years to come.
                  - Superannuation.
                  - Fringe benefits ( free car, free petrol etc)
                  - Paid Holidays.
                  - Paid sickleave.

I too plan to offer all this one day to my hard working underlings. :-)

I've seen that too, people need to use a little common sense when they make the decision to go off on their own.

You'd be suprized how many people just want to be told what to do. Seriously... my ex girlfriend for instance. Some people just don't have the drive to figure things out on their own, and they don't have the motivation to succeed by themselves. A boss gives them direction.

Me neither, unless they're my clients. I think after about 2 years of being on my own, I'm finally snapping out of the mold that I've conformed to for my entire life being employed by someone else. It feels great to get out and really think about what you can do to make money for yourself, and then actually make it happen.
