Well, does anyone know a way to get a merchant account now that Card Services International is refusing all new adult or "high risk" applications?

Merchant banks evaluate risk as per a transaction...ie
1) Lowest risk -- you own a store, customer hands you a crecid card, you see customer's face, you have customer sign receipt, you may even request to see customer's ID.
2) Medium Risk -- phone transaction to your store. You can speak to customer, but can't see customer...you can ask for ID numbers and that sort of thing...phone number...even call them back to verify.
3) High risk -- No contact whatsoever with customer. Amazon.com is an example.
4) Highest risk...P-O-R-N as commerce.
This is from the conversation I had with a Card Service Intl. rep a few years ago...Comment

Oh, and I'd also like to add when you're given a merchant account, it's a lot like getting a credit line. Since people don't pay their credit card bills immediately -- but you get paid almost immediately -- this money is, in essence, floating in limbo...so, for a first time vender to get a merchant account, a lot of times your limit is $5,000 in business. And you have to maintain an acceptable C/B ratio before they'll raise your credit to, say, $7,500 or $10,000.
This is for 30 days of business.
Once you eat up your limit, your merchant bank will deny your business, unless you go to them and can prove special circumstances for raising your limit...of course, your personal line of credit is looked at.
Again, all from the rep I met with.
Oh, and I'll add "high risk" accounts were pretty much *any* internet business, *excluding* adult, which was ranked even higher in risk.Comment

I am talking to a couple banks about it now. I'll make a post if it ends up working out. Probably won't though.Originally posted by Samantha_Luvcox

I have a client who jsut bought our ACMS v1.1 content brokerage software and he got his merchant account through http://globalmerchantservices.com/ for adult, no high risk fees or anything, but he will sell adult products not memebrships, theres a huge difference, if you sell products in the adult industry you can get a merchant account very easy, but if you sell memebrships which has the highest ratio for chargebacks in any industry in the world, your pretty much screwed unless you go 3rd party. I use probilling for our 3rd party stuff for adult sites, customers love the 1-900 and directched more then CC's, ach debit is the future, watch and see!!!

Yes, we have been working with Karen. The real bummer is we had all the paperwork done and sent her the 2k starting fee etc and everything looked set to go. Then the next day they called us with the new information that Card Services was not even looking at new applications anymore. They have been great, sent the 2k right back and have been calling us about every 2 weeks to let us know that there is still no news or changes and they are still looking for a solution.Originally posted by Tornado
Talk to Karen at Netbilling (888) 357-8166 If they cant get you one then nobody can. Tell her Tornado sent ya.
We really need a good merchant acount now. The ccbill and ibill fee's are extremely high and costing way to much to process though them anymore. Going to contact those that posted here for a little more information on what they offer.
