Saw it last night. Was very hard to describe.
I'm not religious in the least but I was still moved by the movie.
Not going to give up porn and still going to sleep in on Sunday mornings.
The brutality issued against Jesus is insane. There is one scene where they are flaying him and the thorns stick in his side and the Roman torturer has to yank hard to get the flail loose. Chunks of flesh and blood go flying. His skin is ripped open over and over. When they nail him to the cross they flip it over so they can bend the nails down in the back. He lands face down with the cross on top of him. Then they flip him back over onto his back and he lands hard again. The punishment just keeps going on and on. Of course let's not forget the endless punches, kicks, clubbing, stonings, pushing the crown of thorns down onto his head, and making him carry his own cross across town and up a mountain. Nike needs to use him in their "Just do it" ads.
Satan was kinda different in this film. An androgynous bald albino woman in a black cloak. The cherubs were pretty freaky looking. Like disfigured children from a dream.
Even if you are not religious I suggest you see it just for the sake of seeing what everyone is talking about. I saw it with a church group last night and it was weird hearing scores of grown men and women crying during a Mel Gibson movie.
Jim Caveziel is going to have a hard time getting past the stigmata of having played Jesus in what will surely be the biggest religious movie of all time.
btw.. he comes back at the end of the movie.

I was sitting in my lawyers office reading people's reactions to the movie today and it seems its not so much about preaching about Christ as just retelling his death and vividly trying to portray all of the brutality he went through.
It got my interest peaked and want to see it.

They didn't remove any scenes.
All the lines in the film were in Latin and Aramaic with English subtitles.
There was one line where the Jewish High Priest says something about the blood of Jesus being on their hands.
Rather than cut the scene Mel Gibson just took out the subtitle.

The question is not really whether or not Christ existed...but will those who see this be so affected to stop slingin' da pr0n.
I think there will be a few who will hang it up and move on to things they find more in tune with their new or old beliefs.
