ev1 is "ok", same for 1&1 (but their support sucks)

ev1servers are sold out so if you want cheap non-managed there is allways servermatrix

I always think its funny when I see people trash the support at EV1. What support, these are unmanaged servers. It's like saying that car is ok but doesn't fly very well.

I have used ev1 fro a couple of years now. Your on your own when it comes to managing the server. As for hardware failures they do takle care of that. I was impressed how well they handled a hardware failure I had to deal with.

That said I'm planning on switching over to servermatrix.com. Better prices with a free semimanagment plan. They just take care of OS updates and security patches. You can purchase higher levels of mangement if you need it.

If your using relatively low traffic go with a fully managed virtual host like webair.

If your not planning on running scripts and are just using the server for hosting large amounts of static content try servermatrix out.

i've been with ev1/rs for about 2 years averaging 99.6% uptime, which IS in fact not more than OK. i have still one box with them, where i host all my less important stuff.
as for 1and1, i've had virtual plans with them between '99 - '02 and their support DOES in fact suck. phone & online.
