Don't just get it done at the first place somebody recommends you to. Be sure you visit a lot of shops, talk to the artists and look at their work before-hand, check out the cleanliness of the shops... you'll know the right place when you find it.

Every tattoo artist has a portfolio. When you go in ask to see his book. You will know right away how good he is. Also ask if he has any pics of healed pieces.

definitly don't pick any jerk who just bought a tattoo machine....couple of my friends did that and they all regret it..

i'm getting a complete sleeve soon..best place around here is Tattoomania...(i'm in montreal).... they charge 100$CND/hour...(so around 80$US...)

whole sleeve should cost me about 2000-2200$...

That's not always true. My "brother-in-law"s apprentice showed me all sorts of work from his supposed portfolio that wasn't even his work. It's really hard to tell these days just by looking at their portfolios.

true....best way is to go to the place and have a look around....you can't just rely on an online portfolio when it comes to permanent ink on your body hehe...

Online portfolios are worthless- you need to see the book with actual photographs in it. Ask to see some healed work, more than likely if you hang out there for 30 min somone will pop in that has some work by them.

In my younger days when I used to do some tattooing and attend a lot of conventions I had the word tattoo cut into the hair at the back of my head. Unfortunately the women doing it went to the same school as you it seems and she missed a 't' out too
