A Chinese man who had a sex change operation can compete for a place in China's Miss Universe competition say organisers.
Officials at the Miss Universe-China headquarters in New York decided 24-year-old Chen Lili, was allowed to enter.
Born Chen Yongjun, the Sichuan native underwent the sex change last November. The fashion model was said to have been delighted with the news she would be allowed to compete in the event.
"I hope to clinch the crown," she said.
Sichuan province's selection committee chairman Zhang Ruiling said he'd had to check to see if there were rules barring a sex change competitor. "A sex-change woman registering for the Miss Universe contest is something that has never happened before."
