President George W. Bush's skepticism about global warning.

This promises to draw angry attention to US environmental and military policies, following Washington's rejection of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change and President George W. Bush's skepticism about global warning -- a stance that has stunned scientists worldwide.

Why does Bush believe global warming is a myth?

Not sure of his reasons.....but there are dozens of top level scientists in the field of Climatology and Atmospherics that also think that global warming is not happening and is a myth as described by the groups that are promoting the idea.

There are a lot of vested interests that want to see the global warming theory pushed as some kind of "fact", but despite what the popular media would have you think these theories are not at all universally accepted in the scientific community.

Leaked Pentagon report warns climate change may bring famine, war: report

        http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...us_environment

LONDON (AFP) - A secret report prepared by the Pentagon (news - web sites) warns that climate change may lead to global catastrophe costing millions of lives and is a far greater threat than terrorism.

The report was ordered by an influential US Pentagon advisor but was covered up by "US defense chiefs" for four months, until it was "obtained" by the British weekly The Observer.

The leak promises to draw angry attention to US environmental and military policies, following Washington's rejection of the Kyoto Protocol (news - web sites) on climate change and President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s skepticism about global warning -- a stance that has stunned scientists worldwide.

The Pentagon report, commissioned by Andrew Marshall, predicts that "abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies," The Observer reported.

I saw a documentary about global warming lately. It claimed that the average global change of the temp. is about 1 celcius in the last 50 or so years. Human is responsible for 20% of this increase. Not sure how reliable is.

Global warming and cooling have happened many times in earths history long before we humans ever came along. What do you expect living on rock being swung around by a giant fire ball in a vaccuum?

There will be less global warming. President Bush had to put his 15 year old dog to sleep this weekend, "Spot".

So there will be less warmth tinkled on the whitehouse lawns.

                So now you have it.

Environmentalists don't give money to the GOP, polluters do. It's not that terribly hard to figure out, it's been proven time and time again Bush will say anything to push his agenda.

I like the theory I heard a while back that global warming will trigger an ice age in 50-100 years.

No. I'm no scientist and I didn't say there wasn't a problem. Just that I can't say for sure there is a problem or assuming there is if it is caused by humans or if there is anything humans can do about it. How is it terrible logic to recognize the fact that the earth had had fluctuations in temperature throughout it's history, going from ice ages to periods where it's much warmer that it is now? I mean you gotta take that into account don't ya?

yes it is a normal process or at least it's happened before I don't think anyone argues that.. The issue is, humans are speeding up the process.

You have no idea what I know or where I get my conclusions, I read that article a year ago. I get information from all sides before I come to a conclusion about something on my own.

Please stop directing your posts towards me, you continue to prove your own ignorance by calling me uniformed. Meanwhile you're pushing ridiculous conclusions based on a few sources that tell you what you want to hear so you can vote for Bush and still sleep at night. Increase your IQ 50 points before talking to me again please. I promise to give you the same courtesy, I won't talk to you until I get a lobotomy and move into a trailer. I'm done arguing with sheep, I'm no match for Limbaugh.

there are many more vested interests that want to see it pushed as a myth. I remember seeing an industry piece with some company spruik talking about how we were doing "god's work" by helping global warming along because it will increase the tropical areas of the earth making it more lush and fertile which was "better for farming" lol.

The fact is it *IS* hotter now than a century ago, the only question is how much of that is our fault and how much is just natural long term fluctuations.

it's ok anyways we'll run out of oil in 20 years get through some nasty shit and come out of the other side with geothermal, tidal, wind and solar power. I don't think anythings going to stop this natural progression, we're certainly not going to stop using oil or emitting greenhouse gases.

Global warming IS a myth, pretty much.. The current warming trends the world is experiencing are no different than the warming trends experienced during a trend of deglaciation. Guess I need to hunt up the thread where I posted all the other historical facts, as well as links to sources that prove scientificially that this is the case...

Not to downplay the environmental threat of industry, pollution is a VERY bad thing and should be curbed, but to blame a normal world cycle on the influence of mankind (which in comparison to the forces causing these cycles) is really only a very small portion of it.

Specifically this post (which I really don't feel like retyping)

I'm not going to say that environmental polution doesn't contribute negatively to a world climatic system. However, to blame the current cycle of global warming on human intervention alone is shortsighted, and frankly, wrong.

Think about the change in climate since the "last Ice Age", which, if you want to get technical, we are still in. The last Ice age was merely the most recent surger in a boom-and-bust cycle of glaciations and deglaciations going back some 2.6 milllion years. It's this longer cycle that is really the Ice Age. The process of deglaciation after 17,000 years ago was extremely rapid, being largely over within 10,000 years, but not far beyond the norm set by previous deglaciations. Likewise, the relatively congenial conditions that we have enjoyed during the 7000 years since then are perhaps a little better than those in some previous interglacials, but not spectacularly so. The rise in world temperature is actually a normally functioning part of this cycle of world deglaciation.

Many factors can affect this change, earth's precessional cycles, asteroid/comet terrestrial impact, volcanism, shifts in the earth's mantle. Like I said, the entire global warming process is most CERTAINLY not the work of insignificant little humans, but part of a much larger process. Sure, what we do can be destructive to the environment, and can contribute in a NEGATIVE WAY to global climate, but it is BY NO MEANS the reason. That would be like saying a running hose would be fully responsible for an entire city flooding (when it was really caused by rain).
