Brett Favre definitely was good, but he was like a candle in the wind. He was an unknown quantity and that's what fuelled his success. He was unpredictable, but eventually got figured out. Still a damned good QB though.
Elway, a.k.a. Mr Ed, was a master strategist. What he lacked in pure talent he made up for in being a "thinking" QB. He's up there on my list but probably not in my top 10 all time.
Bob Greise was fucking amazing. There isn't any more to say.
Dan Marino was the perfect replacement to Greise. He was a machine. How many knee surgeries did he endure? And STILL kept fighting and winning. I remember watching that Quarterback Challenge that ESPN, or whoever, used to do and here he was in a kneee brace kicking the shit out of all the other QBs. That is called HEART.
Roger Stauback (sp?) was a great QB as well, even though I hated the Cowboys then (still do, lol). He was the only one out there that could match the skill and tenacity of the Steelers chaired by Terry Bradshaw.
Joe Thiesman. A true blue god of the game. He was on an incredible rise to the pinacle of greatness when that morbidly horrid leg break happened. That's one clip that I'll never ever forget, as it is permanently etched into my retinas.
Jim Kelly was good, definitely. But when push came to shove (e.g. playoffs and superbowls) he lost his edge that made him a great one. Sorry, not on my top 10.
Payton Manning. Hmm... The jury is still out for me on him. He shows potential but I'm not convinced that he's "got IT" yet. He seems easily daunted when the defense consistently runs the rush against him and he seems really timid about getting hit. Time will tell, I guess.
Troy Aikman. Well, he had a marquee team for the majority of his carreer and I really think that's what made him stand out. Yes, a good QB, and able to make it through multiple concussions without becoming a new Mohammed Ali, but a "great" QB? I dunno.
Fran Tarkenton. OY! I remember him, he was good, but damned if I have anything intelligent to say about him. :o
Joe Namath! There's one for my top 10 for sure. Aside from his brilliant work on the field he was damned sexy in those Leggs ads. LOL
Steve Young? ROFL! He is/was and always will be Montana's tool.
I'm too young to comment on the greatness of Johnny Unitas though I would give my eye teeth to have a chance to go back in time and watch him do his magic.

Definately Montana, during his SF years and his KC years. He may have been lucky to have had the receiving corps he did, but what would those receiving corps been without him as well. He played with a lot of heart and helped to make those guys who they were.
Besides Montana I ahve to give credit to Joe namath for being the ballsiest man to ever walk on a football field for doing what he did with Super Bowl 3 and for doing pantyhose ads.
Marino, Elway, and Kelly all were very good, but none were as successful as Montana at keeping their cool and serving as a leader of their team and rallying the troops. Montana bowed out of the 49ers for the benefit of the team to eliminate controversy, would any of these guys do that?
I don;t know much about Bradshaw besides the fact that he will sell his soul for just about any price. How can you respect a man and consider him one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time when he sponsors everythign from 1010220 to Janitorial services?When life gives you lemons, squirt them in the eyes of your enemy.Comment
