There is a monorail that runs from Bellagio to Monte Carlo, but I'm not sure of it's status right now. Might call Bellagio and ask.
Monte Carlo is next to NYNY, which is across the street from the corner of Tropicana and LV Blvd. You can catch a monorail there to Mandalay Bay and save yourself cab fare. Easy walk, just a block and through Bellagio and Mandalaly Bay.
I haven't stayed at Luxor but I've done the "press tour" a couple times and have played and ate there a few times. It's not my favorite place to play. I have terrible luck with gambling there and the employees always seem grouchy to me. I always end up with a server who feels like I'm ruining their day by being there making them do their jobs.
I'd stay at Bellagio and make the wife happy if the monorail is working.
