Against. I think that if it's wrong for citizens to murder, then it is wrong for the government to do so, as well. I don't believe that anyone has the right to take the life of another human being, except perhaps if someone is physically threatening your life. I wouldn't expect someone to stand by and allow someone to kill them when they're standing there with a gun pointed at them. But killing someone after the fact is premeditated murder.
And after watching The Life of David Gale, I see even more clearly that our judicial system is too flawed to allow for a death penalty, anyway. Too many innocent people are convicted of crimes on a regular basis to risk killing and innocent. And the very fact that the death penalty is usually only sought for people that plead innocent, and they often seek only life in prison if you ADMIT you did it, makes it even more ridiculous.
