    24 Hour Fitness

Anything good or bad to say about them?

I've heard that some health clubs will charge you hundreds to sign up then a hundreds to cancel and they try to keep billing you even after you cancelled.....

    For the single club membership...

It costs $291 to sign up and for your first & last month then ~$37/month

Anyone know how much a multi-club membership costs off hand?

(If I wasn't in bed I'd just call them )

I've been a member in both Berkeley and Fremont, CA.
Both were kinda mediocre and both tried to sell me shit all the time.

Free 1 hour consultation where they don't really tell you shit and the 2nd hour they will charge you up your ass and give some info. But to really give you something, you have to sign up for the 1 week package.

If you can just look past all that crap, they were pretty OK. Always clean and fresh and pretty good machines.

I remember I had a hard time getting out of my membership. Was a while ago, so I don't remember the details.

        It is a cancellable membership.
You pay first and last when you sign up, you also need to pay a sign up fee, which usually is always on some kind of sale. I paid $49 for this fee.
When you want to cancel, just tell them 30 days in advance, and that's it.
Of course, they'll try to sell you personal trainer sessions and massage therapy and tan machines sessions and access to the VIP locker room, but they won't push it too much.
Clubs seem to be mostly OK and clean, just avoid after office hours, where you will have the "executive" crowds who bench press 50 lbs and make the same noise as slaughtered pigs...

haha well I'm just looking to swim to start.

I need to get my back in shape.

Inactivity and bad computer posture caught up to me after 15 years.

Best bet, go for a walk, at least 45 minutes of activity to get the blood circulating.

If you can do that and hold a conversation with someone you're walking with or yaking on the phone, then you're doing better than 95% of the others out there.

I know I see alot of hot moms going in there. There is one right by the Starbucks I goto and all day they are going in there to work out. Was thinking of joining just to see them bend and spread!

I had a 24 Hour Fitness membership for several years some time ago. The facilities were very nice. Every location I went into was horrendously packed, unless you went at extreme off-hours (which can be good for webmasters). I think they take as many memberships as possible without ever considering capacity.

Later, I joined a dingy LA Fitness for half the price. The equipment wasn't as nice, but I could pretty much use any machine at will. I'd say visit your local gyms during primetime (just before and after normal work hours) or when you like to workout.

I joined 24 hour fitness about 5 years ago. The first 24 hour fitness in Colorado was very small but they moved in another location which was very nice. Then a couple years after that they moved into a huge location which I go to now which is just awesome. I used to pay only 22 a month because I joined so long ago but now it is about 34 a month which is still ok. They get tricky because new locations they open they will call Sport or Sport plus etc which is not included with certain memberships. I would suggest if you want to join try to join one that is not quite open yet but get a membership that is for all of the 24 hour fitness locations. They can usually give you a better deal because that location is not open yet. Hope that helps.

I have a membership to the new one in Hollywood. It cost me like $800 for two years + one free year, and then it's like $25 a year after that. Best deal I could get. Most gyms have a deal like this if you're in it for the long haul.

The gym is really nice and has a pool sauna and steam room. It's all coed, but you have to wear a bathing suit!
