Shock Jock Howard Stern?s most outrageous sidekick of all, ?Stuttering? John Melendez, is leaving the program.
USA Today and the New York Post are report Stuttering John will be joining ?The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno? next month.
The newspapers say Melendez will take over as Jay?s announcer, and will also appear with him in sketches and contribute man-on-the-street interviews.
Melendez replaces Ed Hall, who?s been with ?Tonight? since Jay took over. Hall is officially leaving to pursue acting, but there have been rumors that he has felt neglected by Leno and not allowed to do much.
In the past, Leno has often used additional guests for various bits, rather than Mr. Hall.
Since Howard Stern has been on vacation all week (he returns Monday), fans of the program will be watching closely to see what Howard has to say about all of this -- since Stern has always warned his regulars about leaving him ? saying once you?re gone, you stay gone.
