AVS's are not what they used to be anymore. I wouldn't even put effort into any if they keep heading the way they have been...don't expect them to be around in another year or two at all.

my brother has 1:150 with platinums and quantums, then add to that 3-4 month of recurring and you get $50+ "per signup"

Go for it! A basic site is mostly a free site with restricted access. I push my free site traffic to my AVS sites, converts way better then sending it to a sponsor. I would suggest to go with a free AVS like Free Age Card to start out with.
