OK. I can't believe I have to state this again, but, for the record and to clear up the confusion here.....
1) ePassporte does NOT - I repeat - does NOT charge you $50 for an account. ePassporte charges a load fee (from the load card) of $5.00. You must load a minimum of $50 and the balance of $45 is yours to spend as you wish. Why have an account with a zero balance? The $50 minimum encourages use of the product. Variable rates are being considered for 2005, but for now, account initiation requires a $50 minimum load. Anyone ever get a checking account? Most banks require a minimum of at least $100 to open an account. This is nothing new.
SIDE NOTE: Affiliate accounts may load their ePassporte account using their U.S. checking account. They may also transfer funds from their ePassporte account to their checking account. Load -or- transfer fees are $2 regardless of the amount. Good thing to keep in mind if you actively load your own card and want to avoid the $5 per hundred fee of using a credit card.
2) An account may need to have further verification for one of a few reasons. For example, something about your data doesn't match. You say you are in the U.S. when you sign up, but your IP tracks to (insert random country here). Or, your balance is such that to protect the account holder -and-be compliant with the "know your customer rule," ePassporte requires additional documention. Or, there is questionalbe acitivy with your account and we need to look further into it. Questionable simply means ePassporte needs to know you better. Any company dealing with money in a high-risk space (or not) has the same sort of requirements. If they don't, you should question them.
