MB/s (mega bytes per second) is the how many lanes on the highway example.
The more the MP/S means more traffic can go to/from your server at one time. If you run tgp's or videos then you can hit allot of traffic at once and max out your MPS limits easily.
We have people running 80 megs from time to time but only average 20-30 megs. They need the burst from more megs per second.
We also have customers capped at 40 megs so when they peek they slow down since the lanes are full.
The best is to get a uncapped connection and pay average billing. That way you have unlimited lanes and simply monitor who uses them.
