    Someone explain MB/s to me

1 MB/s server. How much b/w is that, or can you even work it out that way?

Technically 1Mbps throughput is 320 gigs, but if you want a more real world estimate, with the peaks and lows your traffic goes through 1Mbps on 95th is more like 280gigs. Since you wont sustain 1Mbps for the entire duration and sometimes you will be lower and sometimes higher, hence its more like 250-280gigs.

          Take Luck!

i always base it at 250 gigs just to be conservative

They are almost imposible to compare one is how many cars can go on the highway and the other is how many lanes are on the highway.

Both need to be understood in there own way and factored seperatly.

MB/s (mega bytes per second) is the how many lanes on the highway example.

The more the MP/S means more traffic can go to/from your server at one time. If you run tgp's or videos then you can hit allot of traffic at once and max out your MPS limits easily.

We have people running 80 megs from time to time but only average 20-30 megs. They need the burst from more megs per second.

We also have customers capped at 40 megs so when they peek they slow down since the lanes are full.

The best is to get a uncapped connection and pay average billing. That way you have unlimited lanes and simply monitor who uses them.

                  Does that make any since?

i think a better analogy would be water through a pipe.

the wider the pipe, the more the water will flow.

I can see that since the highway would be thousands of lanes wide for it to compare
