I do it quite a bit ... working from home makes it happen a lot more. Or even on ICQ at home. I sit in my office talking to someone, then either the kid will cry, the phone will ring, etc. and I'll have to step away.Comment

I set my ICQ to "away" in order to let others know that if they message me I might not get back to them immediately. I work from home, I get up, I go do stuff, I step away from the computer to grab coffee or make a sandwich or take a phone call or mail a letter or go buy groceries or any number of things.
When your ICQ is set to "online" people seem to expect an immediate answer. So I'm really trying to be considerate by setting it to "away".
