    Office or Home?

I've been considering leasing some office space.

Yeah there's the benefits of working at home...sitting here in my boxers etc...etc.

But sometimes you can be way more productive in a structured environment.

There are days where I know I could have been more productive just sitting in an office somewhere without distractions for about 6 straight hours than if I sit here in front of my computer at home for 12.

Offices rock. Especially when you're working with other individuals that can be in the office with you. You pretty much have to have an office for a lot of businesses.

But I have been known to take 6mo-1yr long breaks and work from my home. Both have advantages. But I've made the most $$ in offices. And when I work at home, I still communicate daily with the crew in the office.

Yeah an office would be nice...it's not like I would spend my entire day there. But maybe show up at 9 work until 4 and if I wanted to do more I could do it at home.

I like to keep work seperate from home. when you work from home, it's like you never stop working. you get way too burnt out that way and your productivity drops big time.

No shit your at home with a fridge full of beer and a mountain of Dvds & computer games its hard to focus. But renting an office will run you at least $800/month - Is it worth it?

If you paid the down payment that $800 + rental money could be paying off a second house. Work from home, invest the cost of renting an office.

I have done both. For now I actually like being at home more than I did when I had the office. It may be more of a result of having moved so many times in the last 2 years that I am sick of setting offices up and taking them down though.

                    This I agree with.

I go back and think about the days before the internet when after work I went out with friends, saw movies, hit clubs, met chicks...I had hobbies...I used to write, paint etc.

Now it's like your whole world is wrapped up in this contraption...my work is computer related, my games are computer related and my friends are computer related...LOL

I think it would be nice to seperate work and pleasure just a bit...I have made steps to doing a bunch already but there is still the work issue...and I'm coming off a 3 month stint of working 15-20 hour days and only having like 4 or 5 days off during that whole time...so burn out is approaching rapidly. ;)

Next year our lease is up on the loft and then we are going to separate. I need more room than most because we produce all of our content. Actually we need more room for business and less to live. So we will get 1000 sq ft for work and a small one bedroom apt to live. You have to be extra careful when you have models coming to the place you live. I also think its the next step to grow a business, I think if it stays in the house it doesnt go to the next level.

It would be nice to have a place to go, especially a studio for shooting...

Nice thing about a home office is access. If I can't sleep at 4AM (common) or if I get an idea at dinner, I can run upstairs and go to work. I get some of my best work done at odd hours. Plus, I see my family even if I'm busy.

$800 a month is nothing, if 800 per month makes any kind of financial set back, you are in the wrong biz IMO... it's a tax write off and IT DOES increase productivity.... True...I'm tending to think that this investment however small or large someone might see it would pay off in the end.

I had a separate office for a while but didn't like it. If you have sudden inpiration in the middle of the night you can't just stumble out of bed and get to it, you can't check your email in your boxers with a cup of coffee first thing in the morning.

Yeah you can...just because you had an office wouldn't mean computers and an internet connection would all of a sudden disappear from your house.

I have had both - an office and work from home.

Personally I like working from home. I can just walk upstairs, eat, watch my shows and than go to work again. Or sit on GFY while uploading stuff.

The only downfall we really had with the office was the getting up, getting dressed, going to work thing. I rather not...

Plus we can deduct the office space in the house, its totally seperated from the house with a lockable outside door, security feature etc.. So actually not much difference.

If you get an office, get one that's comfy, not just some little box, or you'll never use it.

So actually not much difference.
the getting up and walking away from work is part of the problem.

It would be nice to be in a place where I can't just wander into the living room and play x-box etc.

And as far as sitting on gfy while uploading you can do that from an office

I still think I would get more done in 6 straight hours at an office than I would in 10 hours at home.

I agree with you about getting more done in less time at the office .Its too easy to fuck off at home. Also there is the excuse its ok to fuck off because I am always working.
