Currently using this type of enclosure

Coupled with a large drive it should do the trick.
I find it works well and USB 2.0 is very fast so litteraly no lag whatsoever and much more fun than DVD DATA disc backups also.

u can carry around a TeraByte or 2 in a couple of these cases.

        I've got 2 firewire and a USB2..
USB2 is faster, quieter, and cooler looking, and goes to sleep when you don't use it for whatever time you set.

They are cheap, hold a lot of data, and very fast. What else would you use for backups?

Something like this exactly what I'm after. I really like the fact that all you have to do is swap to a new harddrive once you fill the existing one up.

I have a 250gig from maxtor wich works great...if you want a 100% backup use a raid setup..and always burn a DVD with your most important files and give put them in a safe at your bank or something...in case your house burns flat

Sounds silly until it really happens...

actually thats a pretty good idea. I do keep a copy at another place on dvd, cd though. I also only work from laptops now, so this is one of the main reasons why im looking for this type of thing for backups.
