is it possible to have cats when you're allergic against cats, and not to harm your health.
I am alergic to pet dander. We got two cats and I sneezed for a few days and had watery eyes whenever I was real close to them. Otherwise it didn't bother me, but this went away after a few days as I got use to them and haven't had any problems with them ever since. Also I hear that Claritin really helps if you are alergic to animals.

I think most cat alergies only concerne certain types of cats, so that you can be alergic to shorthairs but have no problem with longhaired or semi-longhaired.
As far as i know from friends with allergies the semilong haired cats (main coons and norvegian forest cats) don't seem to bother them or break out their allergies.. Think it has something to do with the oil the have in their fur vs. other cats having more "dry" furs with their hairs flying around more in the air.. that's only my personal thoughts though
I had one friend with really bad allergi that got all red an swollen in the head, nose and eyes running and everything if he was just in a room with a cat, but with my coons he "just" had a little bit of running nose once in awhile even though the cats was all over him.. I had a Turkish Van cat too at that time, and they sometimes slept together, the cat lying right under his nose, with no problems at all.. So i'd say that often it's very connected to the breed, and not cats in general
Best advice i can give if you really wan't a cat, is go see some good breeders of different breeds.. spent some hours there with the cats and see how you react.
We've always had gorgeous cats. An orange tabby my wife called Cutey after we found him lost and in the rain one night years ago. He ran out the door and got lost last year when we moved to our new home.
Tessa was a Bengal cat, purebred. Really cool half-wild cat breed. She was an outdoor cat. One day we realized we hadn't seen her in awhile.
Down to one cat now...lol. Sandy. She'll go outside to piss and then come running back inside. I'm sure she wonders what happened to the other cats and she's not about to let it happen to her

Certain breeds don't put off dander.
Russian Blue's, Egyptian Mau's and of course Turd, he's a Sphynx
Btw I had a cat for 2 weeks when I found out I was alergic, now my mum has it. I guess some type of cats won't give you an alergic reaction but I don't know wich or if this is true at all.
