They way we look at it is that our actual cost per signup is pretty low, and since there are no fees associated with check fraud, we really don't lose by accepting checks (we use ibill btw), but the rate is pretty darn high (80%?)
As for accepting checks with ccbill, dont bother! I think i had a 90%+ return rate. I had thousands $ in return checks last year and decided to remove it from my sites this year! (my only complaint with ccbill)
I'd suggest looking at probilling probably, ive heard they have decent check fraud prevention.
Wow 80% to 90%!!!
The Problem is....
Do you think it could lose sales from people who would have used a CC but when they see an option to pay by online check choose that option and Stop the Check?
Originally posted by monkeysnap Yep, somewhere around an 80% return rate but the 20% extra would be missed out on otherwise.
Not if you have a minimum of 100mb movie clips in the members section and had idiots who would sign up WEEKLY with fraudulent checks. I didn't care back when I was just serving pictures, but I couldn't take the risk with large movie files. Bandwidth would be through the roof.
I don't know how people are getting away with it but I know for sure that people are still signing up with stolen credit card numbers and trying to trade the pass..I have one who has rebilled over 6 months and his username is routinely blocked and unblocked by pennywize. But he never emails me to complain about his username being blocked like others do.
I stopped taking checks long time ago and haven't noticed a difference.

might work?
Here is our CCBILL stats for checks. Looks like we had about $100,000 in returned checks but we made over $300,000 that we wouldn't have had if we didn't accept checks. Our return rate is 23%. So you can see it's worth while.
Returned checks are a problem. But I recently learned that CCBill has a option to make people validate their email address before their check is accepted.
I am having that option turned on. And from then on I'll email every single returned check owner and tell them that their name is going public on my message board.
You guys should be using a check processor to process your checks instead of CCBill. Check out www.achdebit.com . From what I've seen so far, they have a far superior system and will keep fraud out.
Use credit card processors to process credit cards. Use check processors to process checks. And use dialer companies to handle your dialers.
Doesn't that make a lot more sense?

I always wondered that, too. We offer the check and dialer solution a little lower on the join page, a full screen down actually. Sales seem to be kicking as usual.

True. It really does depend on how much bandwidth they can suck from you right off the bat, so with that many MBs of movies I can understand.
I make sex games and you might also know me as 'orange'.

After years of putting up with check fraud we stopped them on all sites. Our sponsors made us tours without checks as the fraud rate is much too high. As far as i know only pro billing has an alternative, but there is still fraud with them.
Yep.. returns are really high, but the sales that go through... rebill forever and ever. You will lose money if you dont take online checks from ccbill
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

Hey Chowda........I don't think you're alone on that one. Have heard the same thing from several others. Some have said they've had days with them that are running at like 20% of normal revenue streams. And then they are back up again later?
Doesn't make sense for peeps to have drops that dramatic, and I ask if their traffic is the same, and its always yeah. Maybe someone from ccbill can answer this one.
