Busted: Some family-friendly video stores check-out a whole bunch of porn-- to police.
FOX Carolina's Jamie Guirola reports, investigators aren't worrying about late fees because the boxes of pornographic videos they checked out are now criminal evidence. Three stores were raided by the Spartanburg County Sheriff 's Office in 1 day. The Movie Gallery and Priscilla's Adult store just off Pine Street and Pick-A-Flick in Greer, a partner of Movie Gallery
Sheriff Chuck Wright: "Because of uur investigation we got several thousand videos and a lot of materials at the other location".
A 2 week investigation based on complaints from the community. One worker was charged with renting or selling porn to someone under 18. But the chief charge is selling or renting obscene material.
Obscene material in this case, defined legally as "sexual conduct that includes, vaginal, anal, or oral intercourse?and masturbation". Material these stores have been selling for years-- and at least one is allowed to by being classified as a sexually oriented business.
Turned away customers we spoke with don't really have a problem with who sells porn as long as it's out of reach for children.
Customer: "I'd hate for my kids to run in there or something".
Customer: "I don?t like it, I mean it?s wrong; they shouldn?t have it in a public place".
Four people, total, charged in Friday's raid. The clerk who allegeldy sold porn to a minor could face up to 10 years in prison.
