Well, that was the point of the whole series of books wasn't it? To find out the question itself? Cos they had the answer, just had to trace it back and figure out the question, which is why it was the ultimate question..
that's what I remember anyways, was many years ago I read the books and watched the TV show
... of course, it's entirely possible that too much pot has rotted my brains....
