I try not to take any "religion" as 100% flawless and truthful, choosing to live my life using the stories and lessons to become a better person to deal with as a friend, lover and neighbor. Let me enlighten you. Christianity holds that the Bible is the actual word of God. Something similar goes for Islam and Judaism.

That's the whole problem of religion. It almost always follows a set of rather random and often outdated dogmas. That is a problem not caused by people misinterpreting religions, but by the very essence of most religions.



As for something to "separate us from being animals"... rationality does a much better job at that than religion.
