I don't use the N word, or the C word for that matter. Never have. I really don't care if they're banned or not.

I wholeheartedly agree. As an industry, we should know better than anyone the futility of censorship and the long term problems it can cause. As a country we've made a dedicated effort to protect freedoms of speach and thought. I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight to the bitter end for your right to say it.

Nobody said fighting for freedom of thought and speach would ever be easy. It's not easy for me to sift through this board and recognize the fear, hatred and misunderstanding that is so aparent toward gay men and women, simply for being gay. By the same token, there are many people here that I don't understand. I wouldn't want to censor the misohomo (hey, did i just create a new word?) coments...how would I know where I stand? How would I know which battles are worth pouring my energies into and which are futile efforts to affect decidedly stagnant ignorance?

There are alot of replies beating around the question. True censorship is bad, but there are a few clowns on this board who hide behind anon. names who flat out post shit like that just for the hell of it. I dont give dont give them the time of day by replying to those threads. Using any words to imply racial hatred just shows your intelligence level.

Will these same characters have a face to face convo at a convention with a black person saying some shit like: Fucking ****** stole my radio - I seriously doubt it.

A better solution would be to not let users signup for this board without using a legit email address (not free account emails) and name that goes with it. So if they talk shit, you will know WHO they are. Talking behind keyboards are for pussies, if you are going to let your nuts hang - BE A MAN ABOUT IT.

It was said in jest by one party to another. But after it was said, and the offender was gone. The anger and just how fucked up the situation was just really got to me. I could see directly the effects of "harmless joking". I could see first hand that there was nothing funny about it.

But like others on this board, I'm starting to understand the importance of freedom of speech.

I may not agree with it at all. I do indeed feel we need to be able to say what we want, when we want.

That being said, why not then, lift the ban on words that are not nearly as offensive. cunt, ashcroft... are there more?

The hush falls over the room, because of the overwelhming racism toward blacks that has existed in America. The entire economic system of the South was based on slavery, subjucation and dehumaniztion of blacks.

From reconstruction to the 1970s blacks were denied the rights of citizenship in the south and economically stunted. The citizenship that of all immigrants blacks should have been granted given the fact that half the countries economic well-being was built by black hands.

The N-word often brings up that specific imagery of hatred, domination and slavery rolled into a gut shot...that's why it's used... to generate that visceral response of domination.

A more appropriate example is Nazi and/or Anti-semtic terminology in modern Germany.
