Yes the thugs that will drive by and spray bullets into your house for pissing them off will shoot your kids. My deer hunting neighbor will not.
I never said I needed an assault weapon for protection. But to answer your question police don't tote them around because they are too big. They do have them on hand though.
And finally, the weapons banned are no more dangerous than the ones that were allowed. Just another smokescreen by the media / government.
