I believe a lot of it has to do with the fear factor and the reasons Americans buy guns.

Americans think if they have a gun they can protect themselves. When all statistics prove they are more likely to shoot themselves, their children, their children shoot someone or the gun will be used to shoot them in the event of a crime.

But they still feel safer with a gun??????????

Plus Americans own guns as a machismo effect, "I'm a man look at the size of my gun"

Canadians buy guns for sport shooting.
