So, it kinda pains me to take issue with many of the things you posted.

First of all though..I have a ? Did you write that entire post as your opinion..or were you quoting someone? If it was someone, who were you quoting?

      Now, some of the issues:

Right off the top, I have to take issue with this statement:"The Atkins diet is by far one of, if not the most popular fad diets ever invented."

Atkins is a LIFESTYLE in a practical sense..NOT a "fad" diet. This is not a fad..it's been around for decades. It's not something whimsical thought up to make some quick money by selling some special candy bars and books.

Next:"Nutritionally, the Atkins Diet is terrible. It's an unhealthy way to lose weight. It's not uncommon for someone to lose 10 - 15 pounds within 24 hours while on the Atkins Diet."

Again..so totally incorrect. I don't know where this person gets his information (or if YOU posted the message where you got this information), but that is COMPLETELY and TOTALLY FALSE! I've not heard of ONE person losing 15 pounds in 24 hours!!! That's almost physiologically impossible! And the diet is not unhealthy. What is wrong with getting rid of REFINED SUGAR and STARCHY foods? That's what the Atkins plan is mostly about. Is REFINED SUGAR and STARCHY food good for you? That's what you will argue? It is amazing how many people will say "on this diet all you eat is meat and you don't get any carbs." PATENTLY UNTRUE!
I know you didn't say that..but so many do.

And I'll just end with this (though there are many other points I disagree with): "It wouldn't take long for someone to realize that they literally couldn't live long without the consumption of carbohydrates."

WHO said there were NO carbs in Atkins? Another falsehood that is perpetuated. You DO lower your carb intake. You try to stay at 50-60 grams for the typical person once they've lost weight to stay at the weight they want. And 60 grams of carbs a day is MORE than plenty for health! Some people even go as high as 100 Grams of carbs a day and stay healthy.

This is not a diet of ALL MEAT & NO CARBS! Not even close.

There are a lot of medical sites issuing warning on the Atkins diets also.

Yep, and many of these sites still endorse the FDA pyramid which is the same formula used to fatten cattle and pigs for market.

No shit, but people doing this diet arent interested in that. They are looking for a quick and easy way to lose weight.
All these stupid diets will all bring you back to where you are right now if not even bigger than you were when you started.

Problem is the only way to loose weight and keep it off is to eat properly and exercise.
No one trying to lose weight wants to hear this, This is a FACT!

I have diet taken from a local hospital, its used on people that are about to go in for some kind of operation requiring their system to be flushed.
The gist of it is you loose 10 pounds in three days...sounds impressive but it doesnt last, Im told the reason it works is because of the way the foods are combined.
Again, It does work but it is not the solution to loosing weight and keeping it off.

Right now the US is having an Atkins craze, your fast food chains are making atkins style wraps and all kinds of other crap. 90% of the people eating this shit wouldnt have weight or health problems if they stayed away from fast food chains, wether its for a double cheeseburger or a salad.

                think about it....

Here is an interesting article about Atkins diet,

Congratulations! You are the 4000th post today on GFY where someone made a wide indicting statment with nothing to support said indictment.

Didn't know you knew all the Atkins dieters on such an intimate basis.

                    ROFLMA! This is HYSTERICAL!
You post a link that slams the Atkins diet, but fail to tell everyone that this "doctor" who wrote this article has his OWN diet plan. (British at that!)

But the funniest thing is that HIS plan costs you $14.99! I'm sure that said article slamming Atkins and all his links to HIS diet plan in the article for $14.99 were simply conincidental.

                      Juicylinks,

The Atkins diet is probably the easiest diet to lose weight NOT THAT YOU NEED TO. The draw back is once weight is loss most tend to continue eating fat and eat bad carbs.

I lost 25 pounds over the summer on this diet and eat what I want but I weigh myself once a week and if I gain weight, I cut down in carbs not veggies.

The real trick to this diet and others is to drink water.

Yes ..again if go back to eating the way that made you fat you will be fat again, you have to change the way you do things.

yes, this is what the Atkins diet is all about, if you took the time to investigate it and read you would see this.

This is Physically impossible or would take a small miracle and again more bullshit. A pound of fat is 3500 Calories. That is what a larger human uses per day.
In order to lose a REAL 10 pounds(not water) in 3 days a human would have to burn an EXTRA 35000 calories in 3 days. Even being in the sahara with no water and food for 3 days you could not do this. With a total water and food fast the most some one could probably lose is 3-5 pounds IF THAT.

This is the smartest thing you have said and totaly agree with you.

For fun can you name some medical sites (US based)? I went on this diet to lose weight...My Mom is on this diet along with others I know to keep on living without meds and their doctors suggested it without implying it. Thanks
