                                                              That is an awesome storm. You have to respect Mother Nature

                                                              I grew up in Jacksonville and live in a few years in Savannah - they are saying both places have higher than normal amounts of storm surge damage when storms come through (NOLA was another high surge place but the Outer Banks was not, which is strange to me.............).

                                                              With the sudden change of direction with Charley, at least most are more aware of being ANYWHERE in the path now.

                                                                                                                  Peaches -- NOLA's 18 feet below sea level downtown, which is the main reason for their storm surges -- I've also heard it said since I lived there that if there was a direct hit a certain way - I want to say coming across Ponchartrain -- that there would be no way to pump out the water before everything was totally ruined. But since that hasn't happened, some sort of shift in the Gulf Stream makes it highly unlikely, I guess we'll never know ;)

                                                                                                                                                      The way that looks and the projected track that I just recieved from NOAA tells me that Tennessee may well be inland, but we're going to get some of that as it passes through.


                                                                                                                                                      It looks like it's going to go through Florida into Georgia and Alabama, eastern Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee (middle and eastern) and southwestern North Carolina.

                                                                                                                                                      I remember a hurricane that did that. It hit Florida as a Cat.5 and just plowed through and hit eastern Tennessee as a Cat.1

                                                                                                                                                      Just when you thought it was safe to live inland...
